2012 Activities

Our Annual Spring Exhibition is held at the James Hockey Gallery, UCA, Falkner Road, Farnham, GU9 7DS.  Election of exhibiting members takes place at the Memorial Hall, Babsmead.

Lectures, demonstrations and workshops take place in St. Joan’s Church Hall, 19 Tilford Road, Farnham GU9 8DJ. The Church Hall is adjacent to St. Joan’s Church, entrance to parking areas from Tilford Road, Farnham.  Further information will be published in the quarterly newsletters.

Pastel workshop with Ann Wilkinson.
Ann will talk about equipment and materials required for working in pastels. She will discuss the points to consider when setting up a still life group and give drawing tips and stages in completing a picture in pastels.

Demonstration and Talk by Julie Collins
Julie will demonstrate and talk about her particular working methods. She will encourage us to take risks in our work and develop our own personal style.

Demonstration by Alex Roch
Figure in the Interior Alex will capture the atmosphere of an interior domestic scene with special attention to light falling on surfaces and a 'contre jour' figure. She will explore the versatility of water based oils.

Illustrated Talk by Daphne Jeffries.
Silk, Squalor and Scandal;Hogarth and his work.  Daphne is a popular speaker with the society and this time her title suggests a lively and stimulating evening.

Workshop with Julie Collins.
Taking risks with Watercolour
Working from observation you will use drawing and water based paints to become more confident in your work. Julie will encourage you to find your own personal style and try new methods and techniques.

Workshop with Soraya French
Landscape in Mixed Media The workshop will start with an introduction to mediums and composition followed by a demonstration of technique and an exploration of mediums for the students own piece of work.

Demonstration by Paul Robinson
Previously an architect and also a watercolour artist specialising in line and wash, Paul will explain his approach to the drawing and painting of buildings, concentrating on perspective.

Workshop with David Kelly
A practical and theoretical workshop on the importance of composition. The Golden Section and other conventions will be explained with illustrations with an opportunity for individual work and group discussion. Suitable for all abilities and will enhance your confidence in completing your artwork

An opportunity to bring your work for appraisal.

Workshop with Chris Sercombe.
Creating a Painting from a Drawing Using a drawing of a subject is a technique artists have used for centuries. This workshop will focus on how the drawing of a landscape, townscape etc. can provide an effective basis for constructing paintings.
