Born in 1934, I graduated in mechanical
engineering at King’s College London. I then
worked as research scientist at the Royal
Aerospace Establishment, Farnborough. However, I
maintained a keen interest in painting and wood
engraving and became an exhibiting member of
both the Farnham and Guildford Art Societies in
the early 1970s. Now retired, I pursue an active
artistic career as a painter and printmaker.
I
paint in watercolour, oils and mixed media and
create original print images through the
challenging medium of wood engraving, often
using my paintings as an inspiration for the
graven image. A great enjoyment is painting “en
plein air” and subjects include land, marine and
river scapes.

Also, my background
as an aviation researcher stimulates a keen interest in painting
aircraft. Major achievements in my artistic career have been
election to membership of the Guild of Aviation Artists, (GAvA), the
Society of Wood Engravers, (SWE), the Wapping Group of Artists and
recently as an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-
Printmakers (ARE).
I also show my work
in the annual exhibitions of the above societies and I am a regular
exhibitor in open exhibitions of the Royal Watercolour Society, the
Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours and the Royal Society of
Marine Artists. Also, I regularly exhibit my wood engravings in the
Originals Contemporary Print Exhibition at the Mall Galleries, where
I have won prizes. |
